Thompson Electric and TEC-Corp employees participated in the Sioux City Litter Dash last Friday.
13 teams with 900 volunteers in total from local Siouxland businesses and community groups took part.
The goal of the litter dash was to help cleanup and beautify our community and reduce littler in the environment.
The Thompson and TEC-Corp team had 13 members total. The assignment was the Perry Creek trail from 11th to 19th street. It was quite an undertaking, but it was a great way to help clean up the walking trail. In total 175 bags of litter were collected. Of that 175 bags 52 were picked up by the Thompson and TEC team!

Services Unlimited joins company to form Thompson Automation and Specialty Services
SIOUX CITY, IA – March 6, 2017 – TEC-Corp., the parent company of Thompson Electric has acquired the assets of Service Unlimited Inc. of Ireton Iowa, an industrial controls and automation company. The purchase allows Thompson Electric to deliver innovative controls and automation process solutions to customers throughout the Midwest. Recently, the Central Baptist Church in Sioux City had received water damage in the sanctuary due to a faulty fire sprinkler line. The damage was extensive and included some electrical installations.
Thompson Electric was contacted to work with their team in restoring the sanctuary. In addition to the restoration work, the church also had Thompson Electric add some additional accent lighting on the crosses in the sanctuary.
After it was all completed, the pastor and several members of the church sent notes of thank you in appreciation of the work done by Nick Hoffman, Kenny O’Dell and Mike Julius. It’s great to receive acknowledgement from our clients on the professionalism and friendliness of our employees. This is what makes Thompson Electric such a special place to be associated with.
Tasha Barker was recognized in the President’s Report 2016 for WITCC as the WITCC co-Alumni of the Year. Tasha is the General Manager of Electric Innovations, part of the Thompson Electric family.
A 1993 graduate of East High, Tasha Barker began working at Gateway Computers advancing up through customer service, sales, finance, manufacturing, global products and finally the Gateway Country Stores until 1999. She then devoted two years to Christian ministry and working at Belle of Sioux City. While working full time and raising her son, Barker began her non-traditional, post-secondary education at WITCC in 2002.
“I had enrolled to be a part of the inaugural Online Certificate of Nursing Program. Upon completion of my LPN exam, I proceeded into the Associates Degree of Nursing Program. It was a very proud moment for all of my family, as I was the first person in my family to obtain a college diploma.” said Barker.
Her experience and advanced education allowed her to move up in her career with the casino. She spent the next six years as the Compliance and Regulatory Manager for The Argosy Casino during which time she continued her education through the WITCC extension program with Bellevue University. She completed her BS in Healthcare Management and is working to complete her MBA program there as well.
During her time at the casino, Barker says she was fortunate to have worked with many non-profit organizations and had the pleasure of joining the Foundation Board at WITCC in 2012. While on this board, she was introduced to the President and CEO of TEC Corp, Skip Perley. In 2013, she made a career decision and accepted a position to work with Skip Perley at Electric Innovations.
“Today I serve as the General Manager for Electric Innovations. I am currently the President of the Foundation Board at WITCC. I am a board member for the Foundation at Unity Point and am a long-standing Community Impact Volunteer for the United Way of Siouxland. I am the proud mother of two boys. My oldest son is a busy young man who lives and works in Sioux City, while my youngest son is at home with me in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. My personal interests include anything that involves family, friends and lots of laughter,” said Barker.

This past week Gene McNaughton of Elite Consulting was brought in as a sales consultant for Thompson Electric, Thompson Specialty Services and Electric Innovations. For over 25 years, Gene has passionately pursued the answers to questions like, “What difference does your difference make?”
The day-long session provided several ways to improve the way you communicate with new and existing clients. From the tone of your voice to the knowledge you have about a product or situation. Knowledge is power and the way you communicate this knowledge to your client is critical. Overall, the training session was very beneficial from helping give the inexperienced person keys on being successful in sales, to giving the experienced person a reminder on best sales practices.
At the end of the day, we all had the opportunity to use what we learned to break a 12” x 12” x 1” board in half by focusing and concentrating on the task at hand. Everybody used this information and broke their board. Many also used the board to symbolically “break through” to a new approach, energy, or even a personal goal.
In order to fulfill our pillar of “Employee Engagement and Excellence” we know we must continually provide opportunity to learn and grow. Last Wednesday, we did both and had a great time doing it.
