Thompson Electric Co., Sioux Falls office, is part of the team that is renovating the Raven Industries corporate headquarters in downtown Sioux Falls. This $15 million renovation will allow for all of Raven’s corporate employees to remain in one building. Raven will modernize the interior office space but keep the exteriors of the building and their nearly century old characteristics to fit in with the rest of the downtown area.
Raven purchased this building, the Manchester Biscuit Company Building, in 1961 for its corporate headquarters. The renovation includes all 5 floors and the exterior of the building. Thompson Electric is providing all of the electrical work as well as low voltage, safety and security. We have been working on the project for 1 ½ years and expect completion in the spring of 2014.
In all renovation projects, there are always challenges and the Raven project is no exception. Raven continued to occupy all of the office space during the renovation. One of the major challenges was to do a complete switchgear change out without shutting down. The Thompson team coordinated with the Raven staff as to when the temporary power could be switched and what portions of the office would be affected and for how long. Most of this work was conducted during regular business hours with minimum disruptions. Also our team worked hard with Henry Carlson (general contractor) and Koch Hazard (architect) on how to conceal the electrical raceways in an open ceiling office space. Once again the Thompson team found ways to conceal the conduit by rerouting the raceways by coordinating with the other trades and utilizing already occupied spaces.
